#WEwin!

August 21, 2016 by Tina MacNamara 15 Comments

I was released from treatment a year ago last week and I have to say, the last 12 months have been the most cherished of my life. Our family has had the opportunity to enjoy several unforgettable trips to some super-fun places, and we have equally relished the quiet, uneventful nights right here at home.

Creed turned 10 and finished a fabulous 4th grade year. Maddie turned 16, got her license, and we haven’t seen her since. 🙂 Just kidding. Sort of.

We have immensely enjoyed the “normal” that has been gifted to us and we are grateful for every moment and memory we’ve experienced this past year.

Diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer changed me in many ways. Most of them good. I have mentioned in previous posts that this experience has opened doors for me to minister to so many dear people that are going through a tough season.

Update for December 31, 2015

team-tinaEntrusted, not cursed.

I wrote those words in a letter to my family and friends when I was diagnosed with Inflammatory Breast Cancer in August of 2014.

I didn’t fully understand at the time what that would actually entail, I just knew that the next year of my life would be a long and painful journey and I didn’t want to waste the pain. Before I could even process all the ways that diagnosis would affect my family and me, I was sure of one thing, my pain would have purpose.

Update for August 3, 2015

I realize I should have updated long before now, but I was trying to wait until I was in a better mood. I don’t like to update when I’m frustrated. However, it seems I may remain this way a few more days, and I need you to pray for me, so here you go…

First of all, the good news. I have completed 28/28 of my radiation treatments!

Last Thursday was the final treatment on the initial plan, and I was oh-so-happy to get that behind me. I coped fairly well with the effects of radiation all the way up until about #26ish. Prior to that I experienced fatigue, but nothing a good rest couldn’t cure, and of course, I had quite a bit of burning within the radiation field, but the topical meds did a decent job of keeping it from becoming intolerable. If I stayed out of the heat/sun, I was mostly okay.

Update for July 12, 2015

July 12, 2015 by Tina MacNamara 2 Comments

I have completed 14/28 radiation treatments. I’m half way there! It has been a very long year and I am so ready to complete the last phase of treatment!

As mentioned in my previous post, I receive radiation everyday, Monday through Friday, and have Saturday and Sunday off. (This past week I had a 4-day break because we took a quick trip to Dallas. I loved the trip, and REALLY loved having four days off!)

Radiation is not nearly as grueling as my previous phases of treatment, but it’s not necessarily pleasant either. The very first day, the radiation techs positioned my head and arms on the table and molded a pillow around that position.
